ShopRite of New City

As I walked to Shop Rite today I experienced a great Joy! I love my New City Shop Rite. It reminds me how blessed I am to live in New City. I go away for months to Europe and Florida. So when I come back I cannot help but to compare Shop Rite to the other supermarkets in Europe and Florida. There is no comparison. This Shop Rite makes me feel at home. It is a neighborhood supermarket. The employees in all departments are always happy to assist you. The quality of products are excellent. The prices are the best you can find. I always stock up on the sales. Judy in customer services assisted me today. This lady is brilliant, efficient and courteous. A great asset to Shop Rite! I just want to say thank you to every person that works there.

ShopRite of New City has the best selection of meat on Main St. for a good price. If I want more of a selection then I go to the ShopRite in Nyack. They have many items that Stop and Shop does not have and meat is one of them. They have a large poultry section, but don't have much in the way of Perdue chicken breasts without skin and bone. Instead, you end up buying their brand, Bowl & Basket. Unlike Perdue, you have to trim these up too much and carve out a bone piece from where the wing used to be. I really hate how much I have to debone and deskin something that claims to be boneless and skinless. I never find bones in Perdue breasts. I really dislike that their Bowl & Basket brand is taking over many name brand items that I used to love. Half of the Bowl & Basket brand items are the same as name brand products, but some are much worse. Even the tissues now are a ShopRite brand called Paperbird. I want to shop my favorite name brand items. I don't want to spend money on brands that are generic and I'm not sure whether or not they live up to the name brand items I like. It's too much. You might as well rename the store, 'Bowl & Basket'. I realize this is a corporate decision, but it is a bad one.

The store itself is fine, but when I went to the center where you exchange your deposit ticket for cash the lady asked if I had a dime so she could give me a different amount. I had asked my friend for a dime, but the lady behind the counter was insanely rude and judgmental and told me I was wasting time by asking for a dime. Why did you ask if I had one then? Why did you ask me to give change to even out the amount and then shame me like that? I left the store very ashamed and embarassed. I know not everyone in new york is super nice, but that just felt weirdly rude and I was almost crying.

For the prices, this place gets 5 stars. Pretty good selection, always fresh, great prices, and the butcher in the meat department is always extremely helpful! We've had some really great steaks from here that friends have raved about, at unbeatable prices. I like that ShopRite also has their own line of very affordable organic meat.
